Starting with iOS 17, you can automate processes using Transaction Triggers in the Shortcuts app. Here’s a simple way to log your Apple Pay transactions into Penny automatically.

Quick Steps to Set It Up

1. Start a New Automation

   • Open the Shortcuts app

     

   • Go to the Automations section

     

   • Tap the "+" icon to add a new automation, then select "Transaction" as the trigger.

     

2. Choose Your Settings

   • Select the payment cards and categories this automation will apply to.
   • Enable "Run Immediately" so the shortcut runs on its own without needing approval.
   • Tap "Next" to move on.

3. Add a Shortcut Action

   • Choose "New Blank Automation" instead of an existing shortcut.

   • Tap "Add Action", search for Penny, and pick “Add Transaction**"**.

     

4. Link Transaction Details

   • Expand the input options for your shortcut.

   • Link the "Title" field to "Shortcut Input", click in Shortcut Input again and select Name.

   • Set "Type" to "Expense" for outgoing transactions.

   • Link the "Amount" field to "Shortcut Input", and ensure it pulls the correct transaction value.

     

5. Finalize the Setup

   • Double-check your configuration, then tap "Done" to save the automation.

Important Notes

• Only Works on iPhones: Transactions from Apple Watches won’t activate this automation yet.
• Bank-Specific Issues: Some banks may delay sharing transaction details, which might cause the automation to fail or prompt for missing information.
